Art course modules for children in Zurich
MODULE 1 – CLASSICS AND INSPIRATION
Discover classical art
In this module, children encounter important artists and learn about different eras, visual languages, and classical techniques. The focus is not on copying finished works, but on careful observation, understanding, and creatively developing ideas.
The children discover how artists have worked with color, light, composition, perspective, portraiture, and landscape. In doing so, they learn basic drawing and painting techniques and experiment with different materials and approaches.
Inspired by artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, Cézanne, Modigliani, and Gauguin, the children create their own works, interpreting what they have seen in a personal way. In this way, art history, basic craft skills, and free expression are combined.
The module promotes accurate observation, an understanding of classical image composition, and confidence in using various artistic techniques.

MODULE 2 – MODERN ART AND EXPERIMENTS
Discover modern art
In this module, children learn about different movements in modern and contemporary art. They discover how artists work with color, form, symbols, and unusual materials, and how art constantly reinvents itself over time.
The focus is on experimentation. The children try out different techniques and forms of expression – from painting and collage to printmaking and mixed media, as well as graphic and free design ideas. In doing so, they learn to be bolder with color, composition, and their own visual ideas.
Inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Salvador Dalí, Keith Haring or Yayoi Kusama, individual works are created in which the children implement their own themes and ideas.
The module fosters imagination, expressiveness, and the joy of trying new approaches and developing one's own creative style.
MODULE 3 – ERAS OF ART
Experience art history creatively
In this module, children embark on a journey through different eras and cultures of art history. They discover how people in earlier times created images, architecture, and symbols, and what significance art had in everyday life, religion, and society.
The children learn about the visual worlds of ancient Egypt, Roman mosaics, Byzantine art, as well as the architecture and symbolism of the Maya and Aztecs. They discover how differently materials, forms, colors, and techniques were used in various eras.
The knowledge gained is put into practice in one's own creative work – for example through painting, collage, modeling or working with structures and textures.
The module combines art history with practical design and helps children to better understand historical visual worlds and to reinterpret them in their own way.

MODULE 4 – ART FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Discover art and cultures
In this module, children learn about artistic traditions, symbols, and techniques from different countries and cultures. They discover how differently people around the world use colors, shapes, patterns, and materials to express stories, ideas, and values.
The children explore topics such as Japanese art, African masks, Aboriginal art, and traditional forms of stained glass. In doing so, they not only learn about typical design elements but also their cultural background and meaning.
In their own projects, the children try out different techniques – from painting and collage to origami and modeling, as well as mask making and decorative design techniques.
The module broadens the perspective on the diversity of art and promotes openness, curiosity and the joy of creatively combining different cultural forms of expression.
